On Sunday, October 26th, we held our first annual “You Think you’re Tough?” golf tournament with a field of 80 golfers. For this event, the golfers played our gold tees (which were pushed all the way back on the back tee boxes) and pins were tucked behind bunkers and on edges of the greens in the toughest spot on each green. For this event, we emulated the set up of a PGA Tour event as most golfers are always interested to play a golf course set up to PGA Tour standards.
The format for the tournament was simple, with the emphasis on the event on having fun. For scoring, on a par 3 hole, we would take the three best scores in the group. For a par 4, we would take the top two scores recorded in the group. Finally, for a par 5, we would take the best score. This gave us a par of 137 over 18 holes.
At the end of the day, the team of Tony Lawrenson, Robin Magraw, T.J. Shaughessy, and Kevin Carter managed to shoot the best score as a team, walking away with the title by 14 shots from their nearest competitor shooting a 5 over par score of 142. This team alone managed to record three birdies of their own which helped them win the inaugural event. Everyone at Timber Ridge would like to congratulate this team on winning the event.
Finishing in a tie for second place at the end of the tournament were the two teams of Mike Firmi, Dave Houghton, Doug Ketcheson, and Rob Houghton; and Brian Aaltonen, Dan Simms, Mark Simms, and Shawn MacDonald. These two teams managed to post nearly identical scores on the front and back 9 to finish the tournament with a total score of 156. Well done to both of these teams!
The closest to the pins on the golf course were won by Brian Aaltonen and Andy Sehmi. Both of them hit good shots on their respective holes to win a Callaway golf bag! The longest drives were both won by Barry MacIntyre, as he launched a 298 yard drive on the 4th hole, which plays into the wind; and a 306 yard drive on the 11th hole, which was also playing into the wind. Even Tiger Woods would be happy with those drives! Congratulations Barry!
There were only 18 birdies recorded on the day and one eagle on the demanding layout. Everyone had a great time and the tournament was a huge success. We look forward to having everyone back next season for another event.
