2007 Hole-in-ones

Ward Is Rewarded with a Hole-In-One at Timber Ridge!

Playing Timber Ridge a lot really does give you an advantage each time you get out play. You begin to know where to hit the ball and how to putt on the greens.  On Friday October 26th, Justin Ward a resident of Cobourg, Ontario was rewarded for his experience.  As he stepped up to the white tees on the 17th hole with a Gap Wedge in his hand.  Justin teed up his Titleist golf ball and proceeded to give it a whack.  Once the ball left the clubface, he knew it would be good.   Juston Ward, Cobourg, 17th Hole, White Tees, October 26
Sure enough, when the ball landed on the undulating green, Justin knew he was going to have a good shot at birdie.  All of the sudden, the ball disappeared!  When Justin got up the green, he had a really good feeling that the ball was in the hole, and sure enough, there it was, sitting in the cup right beside the flagstick.!  This marked Justin’s first career hole-in-one.  This event was witnessed by playing partners Matt Wubben, Adam Lang and Neil Smith.

He did it again!

Al Flieler, Trenton, White Tees, September 30th Al Flieler of Trenton has just recorded the second hole-in-one of his golfing career. On Sunday September 30th Al stepped up to the 8th hole at Timber Ridge and hit a perfect shot with his sand wedge to record his ace. The guys in his group all said that the shot looked like it was going in the hole as the ball was flying through the air. The ball took one bounce next to the flag and spun directly into the hole. A couple of years ago Al recorded his first hole-in-one at Timber Ridge on the 14th hole. Jokingly on Sunday Al said “two par 3’s down, three to go”. Good luck on acing the other par 3’s we have on the golf course .

Trenton Resident Records First Hole-In-One!

There is a first time for everything, and Gary Cooper is proof of that.  Throughout his 46 years of golf, he had never recorded a hole-in-one.  This spring, Gary and his wife recieved a gift certificate to use a Timber Ridge for their 40th wedding anniversary.  On September 26th, Gary and his wife, Rose, decided to play.  Gary has played at Timber Ridge a few times and each time it becomes more and more memorable. This time, as he approached the white tees on the 14th hole, Timber Ridge became even more memorable.  Gary pulled out a 5 iron from his bag to attack the front pin on one of the biggest greens on the course.  When he hit his Top Flite ball, he watched it as it soared right towards the pin.  The ball landed a little short, but right inline with the pin.   Gary Cooper, Trenton, 14th Hole, White Tees, September 26
As it rolled up the hill, Gary said to his wife that it may have gone in!  However, he knew the chances of that were slim.  Once they got up to the green and did not see a ball, Gary thought that the ball must have had too much momentum and rolled off the green. However, as he was walking past the hole, he decided to take a peak in the hole, and there was his Top Flite ball!  He couldn’t believe it!  As mentioned, this marked Gary’s first ever career hole-in-one.

Kirkpatrick Aces the 12th at Timber Ridge

Jane Kirkpatrick, Woodbridge, White Tees, September 19th Playing Timber Ridge for the first time while visiting friends in the area on September 19th, Jane Kirkpatrick, who is ranked in the top five in Canada for senior women amateur golfers, stepped up to one of the toughest par 3’s on the golf course. When she got to the tee, she tried to look around for the wind, and then picked a 5 iron out of her bag and stepped up to the white tees, which measures 150 yards.  Full of confidence, Jane hit one of her best iron shots of the day as the ball climbed into the air and landed softly on the green. Suddenly, as the ball rolled, it proceeded right into the cup! This recent ace was the 2nd of her career and no doubt was one of the best shots she has ever hit in her career.

Picton Resident Records 7th Career Ace

Making aces must come very easy for Carl Stacey, who resides in Picton.  His second trip to Timber Ridge on Thursday (September 13th) was very memorable as he stepped up to the Blue tees on the 8th hole with a pitching wedge.&bsp; Carl was fully confident that he would hit a good shot, and once the ball was struck, he knew it was going to be good. However, when he got up to the green and didn’t see the ball anywhere, he started to wonder where it went.  He walked around the green and did not see it anywhere, so he thought he’d check the hole. Sure enough, the Wilson Staff golf ball he used to hit the shot was resting at the bottom of the cup!  Carl’s wife, Joan was there to witness his 7th career hole-in-one. Carl Stacey, Picton, 8th Hole, Blue Tees, September 13

Barnes Aces the Toughest Par Three at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Dave Barnes, Brighton, Blue Tees, September 8th When Brighton resident and Wednesday Night League member, Dave Barnes, stepped to the 12th tee at Timber Ridge Golf Course this past Saturday (September 8th), the last thing that came to mind was making a hole-in-one. Dave grabbed a 4 iron out of his bag and walked up to the blue tees only thinking of one thing: trying to get the ball close to the hole.
The pin was located in the front part of the green, which made the hole a little bit easier. When Dave teed up his Top-Flite Balata ball he thought that it would be a good shot. Sure enough, once the ball was struck, it was flying right at the pin. The ball landed on the green and trickled closer to the pin. All of a sudden, the ball disappeared. Dave couldn’t believe it as he heard the group ahead of him yelling at him and telling him it went in. Once he heard the news, Dave received congratulatory high fives from Maurice Stam, Alec McVean, and Kevin Cahill, who were playing alongside him.

Haylow Finds His Nike#2 in the Cup at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Port Hope resident and avid golfer, Frank Haylow, managed to do the unthinkable at Timber Ridge this past Friday (August 31st). When he teed up his opening shot at 8:50am on Friday morning, he thought it was going to be a great day. Sure enough, he was right. Cruising along, Frank and playing partner Ken Swales stepped up to the 17th tee box at 12:20pm. Frank walked up to the tee to get a glimpse of the pin, which was located in the front portion of the green. Frank walked back to the cart and grabbed his pitching wedge. Full of confidence, he teed up his ball and proceeded to hit it.
While it was in the air, it looked pretty good. He knew it would be right beside the pin; however, when he approached the green, he did not see the ball anywhere. Ken thought that it was short of the green, but Frank knew it wasn’t. He went up and checked the hole, and to his amazement, there was his ball: resting beside the flagstick. This marked Frank’s first ever ace. Frank Haylow, Port Hope, 17th Hole, white Tees, August 31st

Cieslik Holes Out on League night

Diana Cieslik, Brighton, Red Tees, August 28th Making a hole-in-one is one of the biggest things that can happen in the game of golf. However, when you make a hole-in-one in a league, it makes it all that more special. This happened to Diana Cieslik this past Tuesday (August 28th) in the Ladies League at Timber Ridge. When Diana, along with her playing partners Barb Phillips and Kathy Weese stepped up to the tee on the 17th hole, they felt like something special was going to happen. Diana grabbed an 8 iron out of her bag and proceeded down to the red tees.
Full of confidence, she teed up her ball and let it fly. When the ball landed, it hit one of the grassy mounds on the right hand side of the green, and trickled down towards the hole. Suddenly, the ball had disappeared. Diana jumped into the air and her playing partners ran over to her and gave her a high five! According to people at the clubhouse, they could hear all the cheering coming from the 17th green. This marked Diana’s first ever hole-in-one.

McCaig Strikes a Lifelong Memory at Timber Ridge G.C.

There are some events that occur in everyone’s lives that they will never forget. One of them is to get a hole-in-one. This came true for Jeff McCaig, who resides in Cobourg and plays Timber Ridge at least 20 times a year. Jeff stepped up to the tee on the third hole on August 21st, which measures 168 yards from the blue tees. Full of confidence, he grabbed hold of his 6 iron and headed towards the tee. He teed up his ball and struck it well. The pin was in the front, so when it landed, he saw it trickle towards the hole. All of a sudden, the ball disappeared. Jeff looked over at his playing partner, Jim Schultz, and couldn’t believe what happened. When Jeff walked up to the green, he peaked into the hole, and sure enough there was his ball. This was Jeff’s second ever hole in one and first at Timber Ridge!

Van Huizen Joins Elite Company at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Trenton native, John Van Huizen joined the elite club at Timber Ridge Golf Course this past Saturday (August 11th). In the history of the PGA Tour, only one ace has been made on a par 4, and that was by Andrew MaGee. Van Huizen stepped up to the white tees on the 10th hole with a new TaylorMade r7 driver and TaylorMade TP Black golf ball with lots of confidence. As John looked up after hitting the ball, he saw it soaring over the trees.
Once he got up to the green and did not see it lying on the ground anywhere, he figured that he hit it into the trees.  Playing partner Meeghan Herrington walked over to check the hole, and there it was; the TaylorMade TP Black!  John’s other playing partners, Bruce and Eric, ran over to John and gave him a congratulatory high five. This was John’s 5th career hole in one, and third in the past two seasons at Timber Ridge. With this ace, John managed to beat the odds. According to Golf World, the odds of making an ace on a par 4 for the average golfer are nearly one million to one! Congratulations, John! From everyone at Timber Ridge Golf Course
John Van Huizen, Trenton, 10th Hole, white Tees, August 11th

Aces Gone Wild for Bob Robertson

Bob Robertson, Trenton, 14th Hole, blue Tees, August 2nd Hole-in-ones must come really easy for Trenton resident, Bob Robertson.  Over the years, Bob has managed to accomplish the feat three times!  Well, you can add another one to the total after Bob managed to step up to the 14th hole at Timber Ridge.  Prior to Bob’s shot, playing partner Steve Sioui gave him a good target to shoot at, as Steve managed to hit the flag on his tee shot.  Armed with a Maxfli Noodle golf ball, Bob grabbed a 6 iron from his golf bag and proceeded up to the Blue tee deck.  Once Bob hit his shot, he knew it was going to be good.  As they walked up to the green, only one golf ball was sitting on the green.
Bob and Steve walked up to see whose ball was on the green and it turned out to be Steve’s.  Bob decided to proceed up to the hole to check for his ball, and sure enough, there it was! The ace helped his team win the hole in their match.

Greenough Scores Ace at Timber Ridge G.C.

There is a first time for everything. Steve Greenough was evidence of that on Monday night (July 30th) at Timber Ridge G.C. This was Steve’s first time playing at Timber Ridge and he said he will be back, especially making a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole from the white tees.
Steve stepped up to the daunting hole with water and bunkers on the right, but it did not seem to get to him as he pulled out a 7 iron from his bag and walked up to the tee. He teed up his ball and hit it onto the green. It hopped once and then landed right in the hole for his first ever ace! Steve was thrilled and so was his playing partner, Larry. Congratulations to Steve on his first ace of his golfing career.
Steve Greenough, Trenton, 3rd Hole, white Tees, July 30th

Flieler Holes First Career Ace at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Carl Flieler, Trenton, 17th Hole, blue Tees, July 28th Trenton resident and long time golfer, Carl Flieler, was all smiles after his round this past Saturday (July 28th) at Timber Ridge Golf Course. According to Golf Digest, the odds of an amateur making an ace are nearly 1 in 12,750!
Carl stepped up to the blue tees on hole #17 with a 9 iron in one hand and a Top Flite in the other. As he teed up his ball, he was hoping for a good shot to give his team a chance a birdie. Once the ball was struck and landed on the green, they were hoping for more. Sure enough, they got what they wished for as the ball landed and trickled into the hole for his first ever hole-in-one. Carl’s accomplishment was witnessed by fellow golfers Dave Copeland, Jim Carlisle, and Frank Flieler.

Stepping up to the 14th hole, Gary grabbed a 7 iron and a Dunlop DDH golf ball out of his bag and walked up to the white tees full of confidence.
The pin was front left and tucked behind a bunker. Gary made it look easy as he managed to hit a perfect shot that rolled right into the cup. Gary was very popular among his teammates (Bev Wood, Scott Scalletta, and Warren Haye) as they managed to shoot a respectable score in the 4-man scramble format.
Gary Thompson, Belleville, 14th Hole, white Tees, July 6th

Dwayne Gavel Records 2nd Career Ace

Dwayne Gavel, Newmarket, 8th Hole, white Tees, June 24th Once a year, Dwayne Gavel and friends hop on the 401 from Newmarket to get away for a weekend of golf and to spend time at their cottage in the area. When Dwayne woke up on Sunday morning (June 24th), he thought that he was in for a great day at the golf course. Sure enough, when his group reached the par 3 - 8th hole, it turned out he was right.
He grabbed a Gap Wedge and a ball out of his bag and headed to the white tees. As he approached the ball, he planned out his strategy. Sure enough, once the ball was hit and heading right towards the flag, Gavel knew he hit a good shot. However, once he got up to the green, his ball was missing. He went and checked the hole and there was his ball; resting in the hole. This ace marked Dwayne’s 2nd hole-in-one.

Belleville Resident Clements Holes out on #8

This past Friday (June 22nd) Dave and his son Palmer decided to come out after 6:00 to take advantage of the “Bring a Junior for FREE” promotion at Timber Ridge Golf Course. The round was going smoothly and both father and son were having a terrific time. When they approached the par 3 - 8th hole, Dave grabbed his pitching wedge and headed for the white tees. When he teed up his ball, he was anticipating a great shot. Sure enough, when he hit his shot and saw it come to rest on the green, he was very pleased with himself. Then, as they took the cart up the path towards the green, there was no ball to be found. He looked everywhere for it, but there was no luck. Then they checked the hole, and there was the ball. It was a very exciting moment for them to share.

Nafziger Hits Closest to the Pin

Wellesley resident, Roger Nafziger, left the Trenton Cold Storage golf tournament this past Thursday (June 21st) with a big smile on his face. Not only did he manage to hole his third career hole-in-one, he also walked away with the closest to the pin honors on the par 3 - 17th hole. Roger stepped up to the blue tees with a 7 iron in hand ands full of confidence. He saw the closest to the pin marker was resting about a foot from the hole, so his one and only goal was to beat it. Sure enough, when Roger hit his shot, the ball was tracking towards the hole. Roger Nafziger, Wellesley, 17th Hole, Blue Tees, June 21st
But, as soon as the ball landed, Roger no longer could see it from the tee. Once he started driving the cart down the hill, he couldn’t see his ball anywhere. So he went and checked the hole, and sure enough, his Titleist golf ball was resting beside the flagstick in the bottom of the cup. Trenton resident Tony Brennan and Doug Johnson witnessed Roger’s terrific shot.

Hazlewood Perfect at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Cody Hazlewood, Brighton, 17th Hole, white Tees, June 18th For the first time in his golfing career, a member of the Timber Ridge Junior League, Cody Hazlewood from Brighton, managed to get a hole-in-one. After finishing up his first 9 holes in the Junior League this past Monday (June 18th), Cody and playing partners TJ Umb, Troy Lewis, and Ryan Quinn went out on the back 9 to get in as many extra holes as they could. When they approached the 17th hole, Cody grabbed a Top Flite golf ball and his trusty pitching wedge and walked up to the white tees.
Once the ball left the clubface, it soared high into the sky. When the ball landed on the green, it took one hop and then flew into the hole on the bounce. Cody, TJ, Troy, and Ryan stood on the tee in complete shock. They couldn’t believe what just happened. But once Cody got down to the green and took his ball out of the hole, reality set in.

Galt Holes Out From the 10th Tee at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Local resident and member of the Timber Ridge staff, Doug Galt, definitely had something to smile about on the 10th green this past Monday (May 28th). Galt stepped up to the white tees on the par 4 -10th hole with a TaylorMade r7 425 driver and Nike Golf ball in hand and was planning on taking it straight over the trees. After hitting his tee shot on the hole which measures 340 yards, he heard it hit a few trees, so he thought it went in the woods. As his playing partners Charlie White, Phil Potts, and Jan Seinstra approached the green and pulled out the pin, Doug’s Nike ball was resting in the cup. Doug Galt, Brighton, Hole 10, White Tees, May 28th
Once he was informed that his shot went in, Doug says he was “speachless.” This was Doug’s first ever hole-in-one and was also his first ever albatross. Congratulations Doug!

Growden Drains an Ace at Timber Ridge Golf Course

As Fred Growden and playing partner Bob Growden stepped to the white tees on the 12th hole on May 26th, they saw that the pin was tucked in the toughest spot on the green: back left. The plan was to get somewhere on or near the green. Neither of them ever dreamed about putting it in the hole. However, when Fred grabbed a 7 iron out of his golf bag and a Nike golf ball, he thought he would take it right at the pin. As soon as the ball left the clubface, he knew it was going to be a good shot. The ball landed and tricked down the slope, he could no longer see the ball so he was hoping he would have a birdie chance. Fred hit such a good shot that the group ahead of him applauded his efforts.
Fred Growden, 12th Hole, white Tees, May 26th Then, all of a sudden, the onlookers located on the 13th tee went crazy! “It went in the hole,” one of them yelled back. Fred and Bob both looked at each other in amazement, and sure enough, once they took out the pin on the green, Fred’s Nike golf ball was resting in the bottom. Fred managed to keep himself composed as he finished the remaining 6 holes with a very respectable score.

Fox Tames the 17th hole at Timber Ridge

On the hottest day of the year to date (May 24th) the 5th hole-in-one of the season was recorded at Timber Ridge Golf Course. Chris Fox, a member at Amherstview Golf Club in Kingston, stepped up to the white tees on the 17th hole with a gap wedge in hand with a new Bridgestone B330-S golf ball. As he took his golf swing and watched the ball climb above the trees behind the pin, he realized that this might just be a great shot! Chris Fox, Kingston, Hole 17, White Tees, May 25th
Sure enough, once the ball landed on the green and trickled close to the hole, Chris was very pleased. All of a sudden, the group ahead of Chris cheered as the ball struck the flagstick and dropped into the cup for Chris’s first ever hole-in-one. The witnesses for this ace were Jay Kuhnke, Shawn Peters, Joe Smith, Mike Gilpin, and Don Smith. Everyone at Timber Ridge Golf Course would like to congratulate Chris on his recent hole-in-one! The witnesses for this ace were Jay Kuhnke, Shawn Peters, Joe Smith, Mike Gilpin, and Don Smith.

Walker Walks Away with an Ace at Timber Ridge Golf Course

Playing Timber Ridge for the first time can be an extremely difficult task.  When Neil Walker, who resides in Toronto, knew he was playing at the course on May 11th, he spent an evening on the Timber Ridge website planning out his attack and making notes to make his experience a little easier.  Those notes turned out to be extremely useful as he managed to ace the 8th hole using a 9 iron from the white tees.  When Neil hit the shot, all he saw was the ball hitting the flagstick, so he knew it would be a good shot.
Neil Walker, Toronto, 8th Hole, white Tees, May 11th Fellow playing partner Abel Reed followed up the shot with a good one of his own.  As they approached the green, there was only one ball lying on the green.  Neil looked at Abel and said that it must have rolled into the cup.  Sure enough, when Neil checked, the ball was resting at the bottom of the cup.  All in all, the ace managed to make Neil’s day!

Buzminski on a roll!  For the second time in four days, Mark Buzminski from Baltimore scored a hole-in-one.

He did it again!  This time, it was on the 17th hole.  After losing his Nike ONE Black golf ball three times throughout his round, this lucky ball was struck so perfectly that it had no other choice than to drop in the hole after landing on the toughest green on the golf course.  Mark stepped up to the blue tees with a gap wedge in hand, and once his ball was struck, it landed on the fringe, trickled down the slope, and rolled into the cup for another ace!  His fellow playing partners, Paul Crowley and Tim Linehan, were on hand to witness the shot. Mark Buzminski, Hole 17, Blue Tees, May 8th

Buzminski Hits the Perfect Shot at Timber Ridge Golf Course

There is no better way to starting off the golf season than with a hole-in-one.  This past Friday (May 4th), Mark Buzminski, who resides in Baltimore, Ontario, managed to start off the season well with his first career hole-in-one in only his second round of the season.  Mark stepped up to the blue tees on the 14th hole with a 7 iron in hand.  Once he hit the shot he knew it was going to be good, but when the ball landed, he was unable to see where exactly it ended up.
Mark Buzminski, Baltimore, 14th Hole, blue Tees, April 23rd He approached the green, he did not see his ball anywhere on the green.  As he got to the green, he casually walked up to the pin to check to see if his Top Flite Strata was resting at the bottom of the cup, and sure enough, there it was!  Mark couldn’t believe it.  When he picked it out of the hole, playing partners Paul Crowley and Angus MacEachern ran over to his side and gave him a high five. At the end of the round, Mark added up his scorecard only to see that he shot 43 on the front and 35 on the back for a 78.

Monday April 23rd, The 2007 Brannan records a Hole-in-One to start the season!

In his second round of the new golf season, Mike Brannan managed to score his first ever hole-in-one on the par three 3rd hole on Monday, April 23rd.  After finding a new Titleist Pro V1 golf ball on the previous hole, Brannan stepped up to the white tees with sand wedge in hand.  The howling wind was coming from behind him, making the shot extremely difficult to control.  Mike managed to make the shot look easy when he landed the ball just short of the hole and watched it role into the cup.  Mike’s ace was witnessed by his long time friend, Dave Curran, who traveled from Oshawa to play the golf course. Mike Brannan, Oshawa, 3rd Hole, White Tees, April 23rd
